We got a serious groove on recently when asked to provide a GIF booth for a 70s-themed party…

This funky soiree was organised by our good pals at CI Events. They always give us a call because they know we’ll be up for a challenge! And the challenge here was to provide something a little bit different.

So we got our lava lamps, John Travolta trousers and thinking caps out and came up with something to make sure this party really got its boogie on… and that was an ingenious green screen/animated GIF booth combo able to very accurately recreate the flashing lights of a 70s-era discotheque. Far out man.

We hooked up this disco fun bus to our standard printer, as well as a social media sharing station. This meant guests could take home stills of the shots taken, as well as easily share the resulting GIFs straight to their social media profiles, which, of course, everyone did because everyone looked like the coolest of cats.

Combine fancy dress and GIFs with social media stations and you get a serious amount of sharing going on. Everyone’s made an effort with their sly getups and need to share their booth antics with all and sundry, naturally.

The venue for all this groovy goodness was Sydney’s awesome waterfront venue Doltone House. As you can see from the shots here, our booth went down a storm as party people flocked to get their faces snapped and GIF’d, then printed off and hurled into cyberspace.

An ingenious theme, what with the plethora of 70s movies of late and the return of flares and paisley prints in the fashion world. Always fun and/or disturbing to find stuff in your normal wardrobe that passes for fancy dress.

Fancy dress standards were high, with afro wigs a popular option. Check out that dancefloor – why did that ever go out of fashion?

With social media sharing AND retro prints on offer, our booth combined the best of vintage and modern for the lovely guests.

We knew big glasses were popular in the 70s, but not sure they were all that big. And were afros really that popular among the caucasian populace? Either way, these lads pull them off splendidly.

That’s the way (uh huh uh huh) we like it. A feisty disco hoedown where everyone looks a bit silly and we get to play with our booth tech and make it do cool stuff.

Big thanks to CI Events for letting us shake it up with their lovely guests, and to the Bee Gees for oh so many things. If, like Barry White, you can’t get enough of our love, more moving and shaking of the photo booth variety can be found on our Instagram, Facebook (UK or Australia) or Pinterest pages. It only takes a minute…
